Here’s an ambient piece of music that I created one day just jammed a few layers on the nord and juno.
Then I wanted to add some drums and churned out this mix below.
Then I tried to add a kick drum.. that final piece! ….. and it lost all the magic. The kick isn’t right.
Adding the kick drums flattened the dynamic range or something and the ambient bits are lost and it doesnt have that high-octane emotional drive that I was trying to achieve.
this is really nice dude, it has a very Traumprinz feel to it. I fully get what you're aiming for. something that hits like the video I linked. kicks are my mortal enemy but I get what you're saying. It feels like the kick is almost swallowing something up. I cant tell for sure but maybe your kicksRead more

It feels like the kick is almost swallowing something up. I cant tell for sure but maybe your kicks clashing with something in the upper mids. I see the vision though and know the emotion you’re striving for, there’s this Portuguese word called Saudade that is this bittersweet/longing/melancholia hard to describe but it has that feeling of longing.
2 things I’ll add though some hi-hat variation would go a long way maybe some slight variations in the hats every second, third or fourth bars, whatever feels right, maybe like ghost notes or just slightly different pattern to pique interest. This one might just be me but the vocal sample is nice and I think you had some frequency automation making it open and close but by the end of the track it definitely was a lot to hear “im in love” once every bar. you could maybe reduce how many times it hits maybe once every 2 or 4 bars that way it’s something you look forward to hearing as opposed to potentially something that is monotonous. In terms of replay value the number of songs I’ve wanted to play again because I’ve wanted to hear the vocal chop again they’ve always shown restraint in how it’s deployed. You want your ears to be eagerly waiting to hear the chop. if you like the every bar I’m in love, you would probably be able to achieve the same thing by giving us a break in the middle and then bringing it back to finish. I also feel like ive heard tracks slowly complete the phrase over time so like going from “im in..” to “I’m in love” but yeah i dont know if that’s the vibe.
All in all great piece man, i really see what you’re trying to do, hope I didn’t come across as too critical, i really do love the track much love & happy mixing
See lessbroooooo.... just keep it ambient... it was perfect as is! Love it! When left like that, it literally doesnt need anything. Just mix and master it and let it go!
